Drupal Europe: From the website’s hoster’s perspective

Drupal Events are for us something magical, outside people always ask me how I would describe a Drupal Camp and my common answer is they are like a summer camp. They are a place where you spend a lot of time with similar minded people that you haven’t seen in a long time. Of course, a Drupal Camp is about the sessions, and the great learnings we share there, but it’s also very much about meeting old and new friends.

Drupal Europe was very similar, but for amazee.io it was even a bit more special. We host the Drupal Europe website as part of our free hosting offering for Drupal Events.

When we arrived at Drupal Europe, one thing stood out: there were screens everywhere, showing the session timetables or the actual sessions that were taking place in real time.

Having the information updated and displayed correctly meant there was no need to print a timetable, and changes in sessions could be reflected immediately. This was achieved by drawing the information directly from the Drupal Europe Website! Drupal powered Digital Signage!

We thought it would be cool to look into the data over a week of Drupal Europe to see what was going on on the website:

This shows traffic over 10 days of Drupal Europe. You can clearly see that traffic was much higher during the event itself and how the setup on Monday morning by the Drupal Europe team, with a very high refresh rate on the Screens, caused quite a lot of traffic.

Here are some other statistics for the conference:

Looks like the parking screen is a clear winner!

Hello, attackers that think the Drupal Europe website is a Wordpress site ;)

We’re proud that the Drupal Europe team asked us for support and to sponsor their website, and that we were able to provide an awesome visitor experience to everybody at Drupal Europe. Thanks to everyone for organizing and attending, and making this a wonderful “summer camp” for the community.
